Three Arrested in S. Miami After Burglary Leads To Chase

SOUTH MIAMI (CBS4) - Three people have been arrested after a burglary, spotted by police, led to a brief chase into a South Miami neighborhood. Miami-Dade police said 3 of the 4 suspects who were in the car were arrested, some after an intensive search through a neighborhood near South Miami Senior High school.

Miami-Dade police spokesperson Detective Bobby Wlliams confirmed that officers responding to a burglary report followed a car believed to be connected to the burglary.

At some point, the suspects realized they were being followed. The car moved into South Miami, and after a brief chase, police said, three suspects jumped out of the car and fled into a neighborhood near SW 67th avenue and Miller Drive.

Police established a search area between Miller Drive (SW 56th St.) and SW 57th St, stretching from SW 64th Ave. to SW 67th Ave. Using a helicopter and police dogs, police were eventually able to find 3 of the 4 suspects.

No names of those arrested were immediately available.

Police had no immediate information about the burglary or where it happened, except to say it was west of South Miami in unincorporated Miami-Dade.

For a brief time, South Miami Senior High was placed on lockdown, said Miami-Dade schools spokesperson John Schuster. Such lockdowns are not uncommon at a school when police activity is nearby. The lockdown was lifted, and students allowed to leave for the day, after the suspects were taken into custody.
