American Airlines Bringing Back Flight Attendants

MIAMI (CBS4) - American Airlines, which has a hub at Miami International Airport, has announced it will be bringing an additional 200 furloughed flight attendants back to work. It's the second recall announcement this month from the nation's third-biggest airline.

American had already announced 368 flight attendants would be rehired, and last year the company recalled an additional 545 flight attendants and 250 pilots.

American also said it will be hiring up to 30 new flight attendants who speak Mandarin Chinese to work new flights to mainland China.

American said the move was made thanks to the company returning to profitability and the need to add capacity that was lost during the height of the recession.

In addition to American Airlines' move, Southwest said it would hire 200 flight attendants, US Airways is adding 420 and recalling 80 pilots, and Delta is hiring 1,000 flight attendants, according to Bloomberg News.
