Hollywood Jewelry Store Employee Shoots Alleged Robbery Suspect

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4)- An alleged robbery suspect was sent to the hospital after an employee at a Hollywood jewelry store shot him in the leg, police said.

Chopper 4 flew over the store as Hollywood police investigated the scene. According to police, a man entered Renee's Golden Touch Jewelers, smashed a display window with a brick and grabbed jewelry from the store.

"He had a mask on his head and was armed with a brick, took the brick and smashed a display case and took the jewelry," said Lt. Diana Pereira of the Hollywood Police Department. "There was a confrontation between him and one of the employees, the employee ended up discharging several rounds."

The alleged robber identified as Spencer Allen Condon was struck in the leg. He made it out the front door but that's as far as he got.

Police found him lying on the ground outside the store suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived.

Investigators say there were several employees and customers inside the store at the time of the robbery, luckily no one was hurt.

The suspect was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital and treated for his gunshot wound which authorities say was not life-threatening.

He is charged with one count of grand larceny.
