2011 Hurricane Season
Here's a look at the winter forecast from Colorado State University for the 2011 Hurricane Season. It looks rather favorable for a continuation of the above normal seasons we've seen since the mid 1990s. The question this year will be if the large number of storms we saw last year (19) will once again stay mostly out to sea.
2011 PREDICTION
17 STORMS
9 HURRICANES
5 MAJOR HURRICANES
It's amazing that of the 12 hurricanes in 2010 not one made landfall in the United States. Don't count on that luck repeating.
Here in South Florida our average "return period" for a Category 1 hurricane is every 4 or 5 years. We have not had a direct hit or close call since Katrina and Wilma in 2005.
