Officer Involved In Deadly Shooting Identified

MIAMI (CBS4) — The officer involved in a police shooting that left one person dead and another hospitalized has been identified.

According to his attorney William Matthewman, the officer’s name is officer Reynaldo Goyos.

“He’s a good officer assigned to the gang unit,” Matthewman said. “He was only trying to protect the community and looks forward to a full and fair investigation.”

According to Miami Police, the shooting took place at 11:00 pm Thursday on Miami Avenue and 75th Street during a joint operation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

During the operation, police focused in on a particular car, but after that, not even police can say what exactly happened.

“We’ve not yet been able to interview the officer,” said Commander Delrish Moss of the Miami Police Department. “That’s something that’s going to come at a later point.”

The shooting left family members of the victims searching for answers.

“I can’t even put it into words. That’s my baby brother. I’ll never see him again so this is all I got left, a few pictures and some memories,” said Ron Robinson, the brother of 28-year old Travis McNeil.

Family members say McNeil and his 30-year-old cousin Kareem Williams were both shot by police after they were pulled over by an unmarked police unit after they left the “Take One Lounge.”

“What happened? Why is he dead and my cousin shot up? Why?” Robinson asked CBS4’s Peter D’Oench.

Williams told Travis McNeil’s mother what happened.

“My nephew told me said they were leaving the club — leaving the club and got about two blocks from the club and police swarmed them. They hit the lights, they stopped. They were never given any warning about show your hands, freeze, step out of the car, the only thing that happened was gun fire,” said Sheila McNeil.

Family members say they’re very concerned because they have very little information from the police so far.

Kareem Williams’ wife has posted comments on Facebook saying her husband’s vehicle was sprayed by bullets.

“Me and my family just want to know what happened and why?” said Robinson. “It was a routine traffic stop; there was no weapon involved, no weapon found, why is he gone? He did exactly what he was supposed to do. He obeyed the law, pulled over, just like any sensible person would do, pull over when the police want you to pull over and now he’s gone.”

According to family, Travis died of a gunshot wound to the head. Kareem has a wound to the arm, back and abdomen, but his condition has stabilized.

Miami Police Chief Miguel Exposito issued the following statement Friday morning, “It is always unfortunate when our officers must resort to this. As is the norm, the Miami Police Department will be thoroughly investigating this police shooting along with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. All the facts and evidence will be submitted to the State Attorney’s Office as immediately as possible so that they can make the final determination.”

Exposito said in the statement that the police department would “refrain from commenting any further.”

Thursday’s shooting was the seventh time since January 2010 that someone has died in a police-involved shooting.

Community activists like the Reverend Jerome Starling and Reverend Anthony Tate are both outraged over the shootings.

“The chief of police and his killing squad has to go,” Reverend Tate said. “We’re asking for the federal government and the State attorney’s office to get involved.”

“The only way to stop these attacks by Police is to fire the Chief,” Reverend Starling said.

Still, Nathaniel Wilcox, the executive director of PULSE, asked for the community to try and let the investigations play themselves out.

“We are asking for the community to remain calm,” Wilcox said, “don’t take part in any rebellion or get involved with any shooting on the streets.”

Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado echoed Wilcox’s sentiment and expressed his sentiments to the family.

“It’s a very difficult situation for the city because we have now another incident and we have other cases still pending,” Mayor Regalado said. “I’m very saddened, I understand the communities concern because people are asking for answers and my sympathies lie with the families. But this case is under review and we just don’t know for a fact yet whether the two men had weapons with them.”

“All of our missions are the same. Those activists want to see a better community,” Moss said. “The police department wants to see a better community, and unfortunately, the nature of our jobs is that sometimes you take criticism for doing the job. Whatever steps have to be taken at the end of the day, we’ll do that.”

These cops involved in last nights shooting are EVIL!

  2. El Cubachon says:

Time to bring in the troops of the FBI and take over this corrupted, crooked police department and fire Chief Exposito and his mafia counterparts Tomas Regalado and arrest all these killers with badges.

  3. Putitdown says:

I remember readin the news on this site about the last police shootin of the two brothers… Ppl comment on it talkin the brothers down bad cuz they sold drugs and now this police shooting happened and I don’t see none if them ppl on here sayin anything bout this!!!

  4. LIL BRAN says:

This dont make any sense at all. They just cant keep shooting ppl and think that it’s ok. Cops have the most arrogant attitude behind that badge. Trust me I have a relative who threatened me and said since he was a cop he could do this.

  5. Mike says:

I am sure these guys must have been good boys according to there families!
When the police shoot somebody the Criminal is always made out to be the good guy.
It appears to me that all these so called Good Boys are hanging out in the wrong places and put them selves in danger.
The police are not the executation squad. They were defending them seleves just like all upstanding citiozens should. We need more Legal carry permits on the streets so citzens can defend themselves.
Whereever in the country carrying a legal gun is approved, crime has gone way down and in some cases almost does not exist. More criminals need to be shot.

    1. danielle says:

even if they are not good boys if they were not armed they should not have been fired upon.they were unarmed civilians.there is no excuse for police brutality.i think the police are trying to make a statement since there have been some officers killed.i hope the officer who shot these men will pay for his crime.unfortunately nothing can replace a life.my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims family!

    2. sistazmia says:

No you have it wrong, normally the victims are made out to be bad guys. You hear about their criminal past, however that is not the case with these guys. They have not stated anything regarding these guys criminal past, if they even have one. But that’s water under the bridge, because bottom line, 1 and dead and the other is in crticial condition. By the grace of God one lived to tell the story of what happened, which right now the police have not said yet. Which leads me to believe something is not right. But you know what, what’s done in the dark always comes to the light and the absolute truth of what happened will come out. This is happening to much in the City of Miami

    3. tiredofcorruption says:

Can’t read or comprehend huh? The Police are always right and they have the right to execute the driver as well as the passenger in this so-called country of rights…Police do not have the right to take your life, liberty, or property without Due Process…there is no process if you’re leaving this club. Male Blacks are targets period-License, registration and insurance was not the agenda for these MURDERERS.Messed up letting one live with a gunshot to the back…trying to duck from or cover from execution-style Police enforcement. Police have the right to remain silent just like any citizen…Police Departments in the wake of any shooting of unarmed suspects who are supposed to be citizens do not have the right to clam up…Not In Miami!

  6. Dan says:

Just glad no police were injured… More scum bags off the street…

  7. Me says:

This is Miami where the police are evil and so are Miami’s citizens. The blame game is a lose/lose situation. I still can’t believe 406 government officials in Miami have been arrested for corruption in the past 10 years. That beats out the rest of the “world” I think. Any evil bastard in the entire world who wants to make it to the top just comes to Miami and becomes a politician or policeman. I have friends who live all over the US and they all tell me Miami is the biggest joke of a city in the world.

  8. Kupz says:

@Mike… that’s just wonderful… however, you dont even know what happened here… how can you or anyone else take sides? the strange part of the situation is the lack of communication by the police dept. most likely had these guys been doing something so wrong, the media & police dept would have been blasting these details by now… WHERE’S THE MISSING INFORMATION?????? WHO DID WHAT?

  9. KEKE says:

U wrong for that. Nobody is perfect. Everybody makes mistakes in life. I’M sure u made mistakes in life. that’s still don’t give the right for police to shoot someone down like a dog if they just pull them over. the truth will come out. If it come out that they shoot at them boys with no warning i would love to see what u have to say since you wants post his record.

  10. KEKE says:

U KNOW WHAT I DO NOT EVEN KNOW THEM BOYS BUT FOR U TO SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT U KNOW THEM AND JUST DISLIKE THEM FOR WHAT REASON WE WILL NEVER KNOW. SOMETIMES THAT ALL I’LL BROTHERS KNOW WHAT TO DO IS SELL DRUGS IF THEY CAN NOT FIND A JOB. THEY CHOOSE THE WRONG THING TO DO IN LIFE BUT ITS NOT RIGHT FOR THE POLICE TO SHOOT THEM LIKE THAT. I HOPE NOTHING NEVER HAPPEN TO SOMEONE IN YOUR FAMILY BECAUSE U WOULDN’T WANT NOBODY TO POST THERE RECORDS AND SAY THE THINGS YOU SAID. GOD BLESS U.. U NEED IT……

  11. South Beach Guy says:

The ploice have a very hard job with lots of danger involved. We dont know the facts yet but they will come out. They are only human and they want to go home to their familys too. All the sootings up to now have been justified no questions asked. All were armed fellons. This shooting remains to be seen. If it was not justified, action will be taken I have no dout. But on another note, this again happened in one of the worst neighborhoods in all of miami just blocks from where the officers were killed weeks ago and i once lived close to it and know the problems and dirt bags that live there so if it wasnt justified I will be suprised. Still sad it ended with a death.

    1. Michael Weatherly Jr says:

You are a salad tosser that likes to hear himself talk… Go drink some more Kool Aid you sheep

  12. South Beach Guy says:

And just another remark… you dont have to have a gun to be shot. You may be acting funny in a way that spooks the officer like jumping around or look like you are going for a weapon. Or maybe he hit the gas and the officer felt he may use his car as a weapon. If that’s the case it is a justified shooting. Again we still dont have the facts but i hope it wasnt unjustified becasue that just makes fighting real crime so much harder and places more officers in the line of fire.

    1. Michael Weatherly Jr says:

It’s not justified you moron… if there is no gun and the officer shoots it’s called murder. And the defense of saying “I thought I saw a gun” is not a defense. MURDER is murder

  13. EL CUBACHON says:

The truth will never come out, Why? Because the Police Department is like mafia, they defend and protect their own. I’m still waiting for the truth of the investigation of the first black man they killed that had no weapon on him.

  14. EL CUBACHON says:

Funny how the Mafia Cops showed up to the guys house after killing him to look for more BEEF. No wonder the black community hates you cops. What kind of disrespect is that? seriously???? You kill an unarmed man and then you show up to his house with your little gang and holding M-16 Military rifles, seriously??? what you think this is Iraq? Afganistan? WoW… I wanted to be a cop but since I’m seen all this drama I think a career as a firefighter is better. You guys seem like a bunch of bullys with badges thinking you are all tough. And then you cover up the whole story by arresting someone there with a little of Marijuana????? Why dont you go and catch the big top cartels?? Cause you are all scared. Come and pick on the little boys…. very smart thing to do what a way to earn the communities respect. Idiots. Wheres Tomasito Regalado in this? another dumb politician cant even speak enligh all he cares about is how good or bad his boyfriend Chief Exposiito treats him. Exposito ya te queda poco time to apply at Mcdonalds as a Security guard.

  15. South Beach Guy says:

And you cant say “cant get a job” so you have to sell drugs. There is a lot of honest work out there. I moved to Miami with a thousand bucks in my pocket and no place to live. i had two jobs worknig in a resturant in the first week. Half the people wotking in south beach dont even speak english and they have jobs. And I’m not talking spanish, a lot of hatians who speak god knows what work here. And though many are just cad drivers, and bad drivers at that, these SOB’s work their buts off to have a better life with no excuses.

  16. Bill says:

If all you know how to do is sell drugs than you should be shot….good riddance

  17. Civil says:

There are 3 sides to every story. Wait for the facts before you judge either the cops or suspects. Why get outraged when you don’t know anything at this time.

  18. Don Barris says:

Miami has the most brainless cops in the nation. They are thugs just like the criminals that they shoot. Pepe is correct. The Hispanic cops are all macho standing at La Carreta drinking Cuban coffee for hours on end. Do some real work pigs! The Miami cops are degenerates that can not do anything productive with their lives except write tickets for j-walking and going 2 miles over the speed limit.

    1. Michael Weatherly Jr says:

      Amen brother Don!!!

  19. gary liv says:

Another killing and now the CHIEF SAYS ITS UNDER INVASTIGATION but we all know the outcome …. they had weapons even if they didnt they will be weapoms no mmatter what they protect all these killers behind the badge the ones suffering are the mothers fathers and sisters and brothers how come this dont happen in little havana or coral gables huh? only liberty city and overtown not even miami gardens has a killing squad like miami police department all this MUST BE INVASTIGATED NO INTERNAL AFFAIRS FROM THE MIAM I POLICE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO INVESTIGATE LET THE REAL ONES DO IT …. THE FEDERAL GOVERMENT THE FBI because if it is done by the city of miami they are coming out scotfree no blame and maybe a comendation now he and the ones involved will be placed under administrative leave or a desk position until things kool down i hope THAT MR RICHARD DUNN AND TOMAS REGALADO BRING IN THE FEDS TO INVESTIGATE BECAUSE IF THIS KEEPS GOING ON ITS GONNA MOST LIKELY START RIOTS THAT WE DONT WANT IN MIAMI the people are outraged on both sides the whites the blacks the cubans puerto ricans haitians all nationalities are very upset at these happenings why must people go out in fear that the MIAMI POLICE MIGHT STOP YOU AND SHOOT YOU WHY? i ask the people to summon the help of the FEDERAL GOVERMENT TO COME IN TO MIAMI AND CLEAN UP OUR CORRUPT POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND CITY OFFICIALS

  20. gary liv says:

does anybody know where THE CHIEF WILL BE WEARING HIS 8 STARS WHEN THE INVESTIGATION BY THE FEDS GET DONE? PLEASE REPLY

  21. UNITED BLACK NATION says:

A DARK CLOUD IS FORMING ABOVE THIS CITY. ONLY THE LORD KNOWS WHO WILL WIN THE BATTLE OVER CORRUPTION AND THE RIGHT TO LIVE WITHOUT VIOLENCE BETWEEN CIVILANS AND THE LAW ENFORCERS. WE AS THE PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP AND SUPPORT EACHOTHER BECAUSE WE THE PEOPLE IS AFFECTED ALL THE TIME EVENTS LIKE THIS TAKE PLACE. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THERE LOST ONES NOW THAT THE POLCE HAVE INVADE THEIR HOUSE IN SEARCH OF DRUGS. MAJOR CORRUPTION HAS TAKEN PLACE HERE TO HIDE THE GUILT THAT THESE OFFICERS HAVE DONE. NOW THERE WILL BE MORE LIVES LOST NOW BECAUSE THEY MADE IT LOOK PERSONAL.

  22. Normal Black Man says:

The guy has gold teeth! Who does that? Well i know who does that I was just saying. I’m sure he was an upstanding citizen. The world will never be the same without him. Really? A man with no future never has any tears for him.

  23. G. Hill says:

Why couldn’t ICE conduct their own investigations by themselves?? The miami “pigs” thought they were trying to be macho in front of these federal agents, but in reality they are a bunch of fools and thugs because why didn’t any of these ICE Agents fire there weapon??? Hummmm This thug that killed this citizen should be fired and never to be given his gun and badge back and now maybe he can get his dream job-working at BK at the fryer. This town is a joke and I love these people on here that defend these thugs..WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! These thugs don’t care about you and the only side of the story is, this thug shot this UNARMED guy since the whole car was riddled with bullets. Did he moles him first before he shot him? Maybe this thug can get some pointers from the Miami-Dade thug that got arrested for molestation….

  24. Margie says:

These killings have to stop. I live in Miami and I am tired of the senseless police shootings. Shoot first and ask questions later. It just isn’t safe for young men and woman to walk the streets. The chief of police needs to go.

  25. Mick Landone says:

Dan, are you a fool. Your comment “no cops were injured” oh thank goodness. If one cop gets a hang nail the whole town has to go on lockdown. Listen, cops can kill innocent people or vicious poodles running towards them and get away with murder. The problem with Miami cops or “pigs” is that they are brainless.
MDPD hire some cops that are trying to be so macho like the Village People cop. The pigs tell their daily accounts of how they beat and molest citizens at the PBA bar in Doral and this gets their rocks off!

  26. sam says:

Good job MPD. Clean our streets!

    1. UNITED BLACK NATION says:

I HOPE THEY DO THE SAME TO YOUR FAMILY

  27. Michael Weatherly Jr says:

The police are trained by the federal government and supplied by the federal government. If you have a high IQ you aren’t hired because all the government wants are mindless thugs who will shoot without thinking about the victims constitutional rights. And the police handling their own investigation into the murder is like putting a fox in charge of a hen house. There are good police officers everywhere who will follow the oath they took when becoming a “peace officer.” It’s the steroid using meatheads that are jacked up with the power they think wearing that uniform and little badge gives them. They work for us but think we are their slave and should have to obey whatever they say… Welcome to the police state that every country run by tyranny sees. If you don’t make a stand soon be prepared to have your papers ready for inspection whenever the gestapo doesn’t like your looks or how you looked at them.

  28. justme000 says:

7 a year but just last mon.2 police officer, were killed.both sides need to think,
how many are carrying guns now
