Sex Assault Victim Sues Doral Spa And Alleged Attacker

DORAL (CBS4) - A masseur at a prominent South Florida spa has been charged with sexual battery after he allegedly got too personal with a client.

According to a complaint filed by the woman's attorney, the woman booked a massage at the Marriott resorts luxury spa, which is affiliated with the Pritikin Longevity Center, in January 2011. The suit accused David Munoz, 27, of sexually assaulting the woman last month while giving her a massage at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa.

"Ever since this happened I've suffered a lot of sleepless nights, I have trouble staying asleep. I have nightmares, I have a fear of walking in the street by myself around men," said the victim, who did not want to be identified by name.

She agreed to show her face to the media, to provide support for other women who may have been in a similar situation. During the press conference, the victim also announced she is suing the resort, Pritikin and Munoz for more than $5 million.

According to the arrest affidavit, the victim was lying on the massage table when Munoz allegedly rubbed her inner thigh.

The victim told police that before she could act, Munoz had assaulted her private area.

Police were called to the spa, and during questioning Munoz reportedly confessed to the crime.

He was charged with one count of sexual battery and has since been released on bond.

The victim's attorney says other women have come forward alleging assaults, and the resort should share in the blame.

"When you go to a place like Doral, she certainly had the  expectation that she was safe and she was protected there. Turned out not to be the case," said  Jeffrey Herman, the victim's attorney.

Doral Golf Resort and Spa released this statement Monday:

"The authorities are currently investigating the matter. We are cooperating fully during the investigation. Because this is an ongoing investigation and we respect the privacy of all our guests and associates, it would be inappropriate to comment further."

Through its public relations agency, Pritikin denied any connection with the incident.

"While Pritikin leases space at the Doral Resort for its medical, fitness and dining facilities, and uses the spa facility for its customers, Pritikin did not employ the massage therapist, and the customer was never a customer of Pritikin," the company said in a statement. "Pritikin does not own, operate or manage the Doral Spa, and does not employ any of its staff."
