New Cruise Ship Calls Miami Home Port

MIAMI (CBS4) – A brand new cruise ship from Oceania Cruise Lines has arrived at the Port of Miami. It's the third newly built cruise ship in the past seven months to call Miami its home port.

The 1,250-passenger cruise ship called "Marina" was built in Italy and arrived at the port early Friday morning from Barcelona, Spain.

The luxury line's new ship will be christened Saturday and then will depart Tuesday on the first of two 18-day Panama Canal transits that include California stops.

The ship was founded by Miami native Frank Del Rio.

"I've lived here all my life, " Del Rio said. "I can't think of any place  else in the world we can possibly have this event but in Miami, it's home town for us and it's now home port to Oceania Cruise."

The Marina, whose destinations also include the Caribbean and Latin America, includes 15 decks and 10 restaurants. The ship was featured by Ralph Lauren home.

Del Rio showed CBS 4's Lisa Petrillo the bathroom fit for a king and queen.

The Port of Miami is the nation's busiest cruise port, handling 4.3 million passengers last year.
