Scott Halts Implementation Of Health Care Law

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) - Florida Governor Rick Scott wasted no time halting Florida's preparations for the new federal health care overhaul after a federal judge ruled the new health care law unconstitutional.

Governor Scott said Tuesday that all Florida health agencies shouldn't spend a lot of money to implement a law that he hopes will be declared unconstitutional or repealed.

Scott's move comes less than 24 hours after U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson invalidated the entire health care law. Judge Vinson didn't say the bill's implementation should stop; instead he is leaving it up to higher courts to decide the ultimate fate of the law.

Judge Vinson's move to invalidate the bill yielded a conundrum for conservatives. His move generated joy amongst conservatives who have fought kicking and screaming almost all bills from President Obama.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was credited by Governor Scott with winning the case, said she has no advice to offer yet on the implementation issue as her lawyers are still studying it.

On the other hand, it could also be viewed as a bit of judicial activism which the modern conservative movement has spent decades railing against.

The case will end up before the U.S. Supreme Court, which will then have to decide the Constitutionality of the arguments. The justices on the Supreme Court haven't tipped their hand on which way they will rule.
