Lawsuit Claims Taco Bell Not Serving ‘Beef’

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (CBS4) — The Wendy’s fast-food chain is famous for its “Where’s the Beef?” ads, but now some people are saying the same thing when it comes to Taco Bell.

An Alabama law firm has filed a lawsuit claiming that Taco Bell is using false advertising when it refers to using “seasoned ground beef” or “seasoned beef.”

The lawsuit claims the meat mixture sold by Taco Bell restaurants contains binders and extenders and does not meet the minimum requirements set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be labeled as “beef.”

The class-action lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in the Central District of California by the Montgomery law firm Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles.

Attorney Dee Miles said the lawsuit does not seek monetary damages, but asks that Taco Bell be honest in its advertising.

Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch said the company denies that its advertising is misleading.

I previously was the head manager at a smaller competiting taco shop a couple years before and it made it’s taco meat in-house routinely. It incorporated mostly lean hamburg ground beef with a couple cups of flaked oates as well as different ingredients like preserved onion, salt and flavored taco sauce. The mystery Taco Bell is calling taco meat is nothing like what they are announcing it to be.
