Mom Dies One Week After Son Drove Into Canal

LOXAHATCHEE (CBS4) -- A South Florida mother has died one week after a driving lesson in the family car for her 12 year-old son turned tragic.

Martha Camarillo, 31, died Saturday from injuries sustained in the crash, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

On January 16, The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says the boy's father let his son take the driver's seat  in the family's SUV. The boy's mother, 1-year-old sister and 6-year-old brother were in the back seat.

The sheriff's office says the boy then accidentally put the vehicle in gear and accelerated.

The SUV plunged into a Loxahatchee canal and flipped over.

The sheriff's office says the boy's sister and brother remain in the hospital in critical condition. The father suffered minor injuries and the boy was unhurt.

All were wearing seat belts.
