Pink Snails Trek To Coral Gables
MIAMI (CBS4)- Are you wondering where the Miami Beach giant hot pink snails disappeared to? The snails made a move to Coral Gables, but they will not be there for long.
In November, the snails popped up all over Miami Beach, including Lummus Park and the Venetian Causeway.
The 45 pink snails, each measuring eight feet tall by eleven feet long, are the brain child of an Italian art collective and a Rome-based gallery which hopes to spread environmental consciousness, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald. The snails, which are made out of recycled plastic, moved until they were all set in Collins Park in mid-December.
"The concept is the snail wants us to think about ourselves and they want to teach us something. We run, run, run but what are we reaching? What are our goals? We are destroying our planet," Gloria Porcella, co-owner of Galleria Ca' d'Oro, told the paper.
The gallery, located at 135 San Lorenzo Avenue, sponsored the exhibit.
Eight of the snails were vandalized in and police were looking for the culprits who targeted the recycled plastic gastropods. They vandalized with graffiti, punched and one located in Maurice Gibb Memorial Park was even thrown into Biscayne Bay.
But now the snails have a new home- Coral Gables. The snails were moved last weekend after participating in Art Basel.
If you're hoping to catch a glimpse of the snails you'll have to hurry. They'll only be in the city for two months.
