TALLAHASEE (CBS4) – Governor Rick Scott has tapped a new head to the state’s Department of Children and Families, succeeding George Sheldon.

David Wilkins was appointed by Scott on Tuesday. Wilkins served as a member of the governor’s transition team and is currently the finance chairman of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home, which operates a variety of social programs across the state. Wilkins also once was the global managing director of sales for Accenture Health and Public Service, where he spent 29 years.

Wilkins has been active in numerous other Tallahassee-area charities for years, including the United Way.
