18-Year-Old Lifeguard Arrested for Sex with Minor
A disturbing case is emerging from Pembroke Pines tonight.
An 18-year-old former lifeguard is accused of a numerous counts of sexual battery on a 7-year-old.
According to Pembroke Pines Police, Jefferson Kurtz was staying with the child's family for several months last year and took advantage of the boy.
Kurtz is charged with three counts of sexual battery, four counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and one count of lewd and lascivious exhibition in the presence of a minor.
Police say Kurtz worked as a lifeguard at the Jewish Community Center in Aventura while he stayed with the family in Pines.
From the news release: "Because the suspect was in proximity to children, the JCC administration was notified and has been extremely cooperative in notifying their membership about the fact that Kurtz was in frequent proximity to children at that location, raising the concern for yet-unreported crimes."
Police say they have not found any additional victims at this time.
Kurtz was arrested at his home in New York last month. He is currently being held in the Broward County Jail without bond.
