WESTON (CBS4) – An elderly man is dead after his Weston home was engulfed in flames late Wednesday night.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue units rushed to the home on the 1700 block of Lakeshore Circle and began to battle the blaze.

Neighbors tell CBS4 News that they tried to get into the home to rescue the elderly man, but the smoke and flames were too thick to pass through.

The man’s wife was also in the home, but survived. She was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The victim has not been identified.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
