Police Unveil Billboard Of Suspected Killer

MIAMI (CBS4) - Hoping to generate new leads in the murder of a South Florida security guard, a new billboard has gone up featuring the picture of the man police say is his alleged murderer.

The billboard, at NW 27th Avenue just south of State Road 112, is the fourth one to profile 27-year old Jonathan Labrada who police believe shot and killed Luis Diaz, 40, last year.

Diaz was working as security at Las Botellitas Restaurant, located at 2150 NW 22nd Avenue, on March 13th when he was shot. He was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he died.

Last December, the suspect was featured on America's Most Wanted.

Miami homicide detectives hope the billboards will generate anonymous tips from the public that will lead to Labrada's arrest.

"He's from the area, not too far from here," said Miami Detective Roderick Passmore. "Where we have the billboards up and posted, it's like a five mile radius from where the murder occurred. We're hoping that somebody will see it, see the billboards and if he's in the area, give us a call."

"Maybe somebody who knows him will pick up the pone and make that call," said America's Most Wanted's John Turchin. "This is just noe more tool to try and help catch the guy."

The "Wanted" billboards include a toll-free number for anonymous tips from the public (1-800-CRIME-TV).

In addition to being the prime suspect in Diaz's murder, police said Labrada has outstanding warrants for first degree murder and an assault on a law enforcement officer.

The other three billboards seeking clues to Labrada's whereabouts are on NW 36th Street, NW 27th Avenue and the Airport Expressway.

The four billboards in Miami were donated by CBS Outdoor and Clear Channel Outdoor.
