Miami Family Reunited With Their Injured Pet
MIAMI (CBS4) - There was lots of love for Juicy the dog once she was reunited with her family after a devastating fire.
"It's really a miracle, because I wasn't expecting to see her alive again' explained Lucy Dominguez, Juicy's owner.
Two days after Christmas, an electrical fire burned down the Dominguez's home. Fire units fought the flames and rushed to save the family – and their pets inside.
"I'm glad you could help her, you and your crew" Dominguez told Lt. James Melley, one of the first responders to the scene.
"It's just one of those moments where all our training comes together. [Juicy the dog] looks tremendously different, I didn't even realize how bright white she was, she was all full of soot, she had some burns" said Melley.
When Juicy was pulled from the fire, she received oxygen from the pet oxygen masks donated to all Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units by The Clydey Foundation, an animal rescue non-profit group.
It's what the team at Knowles Animal Clinic say she may have saved her life.
"Thankfully she did have the pet oxygen mask provided by The Clydey Foundation" explained Dr. Cristina Maristany, the veterinarian working with Juicy.
It's been a tough year for the Dominguez family, with a recent job loss they're relying on one paycheck to keep them afloat.
"At this point in time I'm unemployed, we don't have the money" said Dominguez.
So Neighbors4Neighbors reached out to The Clydey Foundation for help with the $3,000 vet bill.
"We're very, very thankful, just knowing that we have people in the neighborhood like them and this foundation is just really something good" said Dominguez.
For The Clydey Foundation, it's a full circle moment and another successful pet rescue to add to their list.
"I'm happy that we could step in, first with the pet oxygen masks and now help this family and their pet, it's a great feeling," said Sharon Jacobson, founder of The Clydey Foundation.
