New Year, New You: Primal Workout

MIAMI SHORES (CBS4) - As many people ring in the New Year, exercise is always on their mind. Have you ever thought of giving your traditional workout a twist? One South Florida trainer wants people to forget the fancy gym equipment and go back to basics.

To help people get into the swing of things, the trainer wants to rope you in and get you to push through the pain and go primal in 2011.

"If you are doing the things you did last year and you look the exact same, it probably wasn't working for you," said Matt Pack founder of Primal Fit Miami, a new training facility opening up in Miami Shores.

Pack is a believer in working multiple muscles and using your own body to perform continuous movements.

"A squat lunge, push, pull, gate patterns, sprinting, jumping and throwing, these are things that are body has been designed to do for hundreds of years," said Pack to CBS4's Jorge Estevez.

People who personal train with Pack go to work out in groups or on an individual level, but the workouts have something in common: they all are meant to give people a maximum workout.

Whether it is a dynamic plank, an upper body workout with the tornado ball, or a rolling the ab wheel for interior core, the workouts all work together to give you the most for your time.

"It is different from the mundane gym workout the weights the bar bells. We are doing different things using different muscles," said George Abadie who works out with Primal Fit Miami.

"It gives me the strength and the motivation," said Susan McIntosh, another trainee.

"We challenge each other and encourage each other," said Janet Carabelli who has been with Primal Fit Miami for a few years.

Whichever your workout, the solution for a great workout, according to Pack, is to mix it up and go back to basics.
