SUNRISE (CBS4) – The northbound lanes of Flamingo Road near the popular Sawgrass Mills Mall are open again. That wasn’t the case early Tuesday morning after a bicyclist was struck and killed by a car.

Sunrise police spokesman Lt. Brian Gerity said the accident happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. in the 15-hundred block of Flamingo Road, near Sunrise Boulevard.

Gerity said the driver of the car stopped and waited for police. The name of the bicyclist, only described by police as an adult male, is being withheld until his family can be notified.

Drivers heading north on Flamingo Road were diverted to Hiatus Road or Nob Hill Road; southbound lanes were not affected.
