Oh Baby! Moms Deliver For The New Year

MIAMI (CBS4) - Grace Jarquin was Miami's first baby of 2011, born at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital at 12:21 Saturday morning.

Grace weighs 8.9 pounds. She came into the world just four hours after her mom, Virginia Miranda Perez, 38, checked into the hospital. Grace is the fourth daughter in the Jarquin family.

In Broward, the mother of that county's New Year's bundle of joy told the hospital "no thanks" when asked to share information about its arrival. However, a spokesman for the hospital did confirm that they had the delivery shortly after the ball dropped in Times Square.

Miami's second born in 2011 was at Baptist Hospital in Kendall. Their spokesperson said their first baby was born at about 1 a.m. and weighs just over 7 pounds and is 20.5 inches long, said hospital spokeswoman Barbara Moore. Parents Emelia and Lenin Hernandez expected their second child to be born Jan. 14. But he came two weeks early, according to CBS4 news partner, The Miami Herald.
