Crews Battling Brush Fire In Southwest Miami-Dade

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews spent their New Year's Eve battling a large brush fire that sparked late Friday night in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Fire Captain Eric Baum says a dozen units are working the two alarm fire in the area of Southwest 132 Avenue and 127th Avenue and north of Southwest 280 Street to 272 Street.

Captain Baum says the fire is a result of low humidity and dryness and the department has requested assistance from Florida Forestry officials and air rescue units.

No homes have been evacuated, but fire units have been strategically placed between the fire and nearby homes.

Capt. Baum says residents in the area should not be concerned, and if they are, he advises them to call 911.
