Dying Music Professor Honored With A Concert

DOWNTOWN MIAMI (CBS4) - A special concert was held Thursday afternoon to honor a beloved professor fighting for his life.

Longtime music teacher and Barry University adjunct violin professor Thomas Moore was the guest of honor at the "Thomas Moore Celebratory Concert" at First Presbyterian Church on Brickell Avenue.

The concert fell on his birthday, which will likely be his last one.

According to CBS4's news partners The Miami Herald, Moore is battling Stage IV kidney cancer and is expected to live only a few more weeks.

Some of the estimated 2,000 students Moore taught over the years showed up to honor the man who gave them the love of music.

Moore holds appointments as Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the New World School of the Arts, and Professor Emeritus of the University of Miami School of Music.
