Miami Cop Charged With Trying To Sell Hot Headsets

MIAMI (CBS4) - A twelve-year veteran of the Miami police department has found himself on the wrong side of the law after being accused of trying to sell a shipment of 'hot' Bluetooth headsets.

Federal prosecutors say Ricardo Martinez, 40, planned to sell 10 thousand stolen headsets for about $10 each and pocket 40 percent of the sales.

Martinez reportedly received the stolen goods from a truck from Chicago, the shipment allegedly arranged by his wife's company.

Prosecutors said Martinez criminal activity stemmed from an off duty job and was not related to his police work.

Martinez, who has been suspended with pay pending an investigation, is charged with receipt and possession of stolen goods. His attorney Myles Malman said he will review the charges and decide how to continue.

Martinez was also under investigation earlier this year for his involvement in two fatal police shootings.
