Sistrunk Boulevard To Shine At Friday's Holiday Festival

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - With only 15 shopping days left until Christmas, the city of  Fort Lauderdale is getting into the holiday spirit with a tree lighting ceremony Friday evening.

In Fort Lauderdale, it's the 4th Annual Light Up Sistrunk Event where guests can usher in the holiday season in style by walking the red carpet and taking photos with Santa Claus.

The event features special appearances by the Miami Dolphins Mascot, T.D., Miami Dolphins cheerleaders and Miami Dolphins alumnus Lorenzo Hampton. There will also be a toy giveaway and musical performances presented by Parkway Middle School, North Fork Elementary School, the Angel Tone Steel Band, members of the Nan Knox Boys & Girls Club and the Carter Park Kids.

New to Light Up Sistrunk this year is a special Kids Zone with bounce houses and a place where children can actually play in the snow.

As the sun goes down, the 20-foot centerpiece tree will be illuminated.

Light Up Sistrunk starts at 5:30 p.m.

To prepare for the event, Sistrunk will be closed to traffic from NW 9th Avenue to NW 11th Avenue beginning at 1 p.m. Friday. Streets will reopen at 8:30 p.m.
