UF Better Off Without Meyer

So Urban Meyer resigned for the second time in as many months as head coach of the University of Florida. How will he be remembered? By UF fans he will be up there with Spurrier, for the rest of the college football world, he'll be a three-year blip.

Unlike other long-term coaches, former UF head coach Urban Meyer lasted just six years on the grand stage before flaming out. Meyer was phenomenal when he had the quarterback to run his system, without it, he struggled to regain his team's dominance.

Meyer, while winning two national championships during an impressive run in the latter half of this decade, can't be considered in the same breath as some of the greats. He'll never have the stature of a Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, Bear Bryant, Bo Schembechler, and many others.

He could coach well if he had his quarterback. Without his quarterback, whether it was Alex Smith or Tim Tebow, he frankly, couldn't cut it at the top of the college football world.

Meyer worked hard and pushed UF into the top level of college football, but ultimately, UF will be better in the long-run without him.

And before you think he's going to the NFL, trust me, there's no way his offensive scheme can work in the NFL. The players are too fast, too strong, and the play-calling is simply not good enough to be NFL defenses.
