Woman, Unborn Child Fatally Struck By Car

MIAMI (CBS4) -- A 26-year-old pregnant woman was hit by a car in southwest Miami-Dade Saturday night, killing her and her unborn child.

CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald is reporting that Cecelia L. Chinn and her husband had been trying to cross Kendall Drive near Southwest 122nd Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. when she was struck by an eastbound 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt.

Chinn landed on the Cobalt's hood, then struck the windshield and fell onto the pavement, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Alex Annunziato.

Her husband made it across without being hit, Annunziato said.

Chinn, who was seven months pregnant, made it as far as the outside lane and was trying to cross the middle lane when the accident happened, She was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she and the unborn child died shortly before 1 a.m.

The Cobalt driver was identified by FHP as 23-year-old Linda M. McKenna. She stayed at the scene, Annunziato said.

A witness told investigators that eastbound and westbound traffic had a green light at the time of the accident.

No charges have been filed.
