Baby Found Dead In Richmond Heights Home

Tragedy struck at Richmond Heights Sunday afternoon when a 3-month old girl was found unresponsive.

Rescue workers answered a call just after noon at 14840 Harrison Street in Miami, where they found Janshay Allen unresponsive in her crib, said Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta.

There also are no outward signs of trauma, he said.

Grandmother Yolanda Allen said the baby was a good baby and wonders aloud how and why she died.

"She was a very pretty baby, a good baby you know while she was here she was only three months," Allen said. "Devastating, devastating very devastating."

Allen sat holding Janshay's older sister.

Zabaleta said rescue workers took the baby to Baptist Hospital in Kendall where efforts to revive her failed.

Zabalet said the situation requires investigation.

"Well, anytime you have an infant like this, I mean she's still an infant, she's 3 months old, it really catches your attention," he said. "And from what we're gathering on the scene everybody's been cooperative."

Police have interviewed the child's parents about what might have happened.

"… of course this is something that catches everybody by surprise, and of course the tragic thing is that we're looking at a three month old that lost their life," Zabaleta said. "So, our hearts go out to the family, but investigators here are looking at every piece of information to find out exactly what did occur."

The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the family will be dealing with tragedy at a time when there should be joy.

"[It's] Thanksgiving next week, now we gotta plan a funeral," said the baby's aunt. Tonya Riley. "I mean, that's just God's work, we can't prevent that what's gonna happen, is gonna happen. It's just sad, I can't really say nothing cause I'm hurting right now."
