Criminals Can Be Pretty Dumb

Ya know how movies usually portray crooks as being really crafty -- always one step ahead of police?  That is SOOOO not true in real life, for the most part.   I think if a criminal gets away with something, it's just dumb luck, and I stress the word dumb.

Take today, for example, a guy goes into a gas station, steals a bottle of wine (at 8:30 a.m., I might add --kind of early to hit the bottle if you ask me)  runs outside, jumps into a pick up truck, takes off, crashes when he pulls into the street, takes off running, then jumps into a lake.

OK -- where do I begin?  First off, the guy was a "Victim of Fashion."  He was wearing those big, baggy jeans.  Witnesses tell me, and surveillance video shows, he wasn't moving too fast, because the darn pants kept falling down and he had to hold them up.  (As an aside, I've also noticed when I watch people run, holding their baggy pants, they always appear a bit dainty, don't they?  It makes me laugh.)  Next, as the guy's running with his pants falling, mechanics from a nearby garage start running after him, when they point out he has no where to run, he jumps into the lake.  Again, not bright.

Remember, he's still wearing those big, baggy pants and now they're acting as an anchor.  Off come the pants and the shirt...so now, our suspected auto thief is swimming for his life in his underpants.  By this time, you'd have to think he figures, "Golly, this wasn't the best idea...I better give it up."  Mind you, as he's treading water, the lake is also infested with GATORS.  (That would be enough for me to "walk on water" to get out of there.)  Police tell us he refused to swim ashore.  That's when they dropped a life ring for him.  Fortunately, he had the good sense to grab onto it.  Eventually, police went out in a boat and got him.

Seems like this guy should have just stayed in bed and maybe studied harder at school - seems like he didn't use to much reasoning in this one.
