Woman Killed In Nov. 2 Hit And Run Identified

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Maebell Johnson went missing from her Fort Lauderdale home Nov. 2 and tragically was the victim of a hit-and-run accident the following day on Interstate 595.

Johnson, 62, suffered from dementia and seizures, according to a Fort Lauderdale Police release that asks for the public's help in finding her.

She was last seen Tuesday at her home at 7 a.m. in the 2600 block of Northwest 27th Lane in Fort Lauderdale by her daughter, Trina Pettiford.

Later on Wednesday, Nov. 3, Florida Highway Patrol were called to investigate the killing of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run crash in the west-bound lanes of I-595.

FHP had not been able to identify the victim, an older black woman, because she was carrying no identification. They later learned her identity from an online news article asking for help in finding Johnson, who fit the description of the victim.
