Hole Found In Reactor Liner At Turkey Point

HOMESTEAD (CBS4) - Employees at Florida Power & Light's Turkey Point plant are working to fix a hole found in a nuclear reactor building's steel lining during an inspection.

Workers found the hole, along with a 30 inch section of corrosion, Monday while the reactor was shut down for refueling.

The quarter-inch-thick liner is designed to prevent any release of radiation if the reactor fails. FPL said the hole and corrosion did not affect the health of the public or the plant's workers.

FPL said it has notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the "non-emergency" problem.
